Fairy Tale Read-Aloud Stories
We have been using story maps to recall a story's characters, setting and important events (beginning, middle, and ending). Building on these skills, students created a retelling famous fairy tales.

They worked in groups to learn a tale and identify the main characters and the setting. Each group member was assigned an event from the story. The students illustrated the event and retold it in their own words. We then uploaded the illustration and recorded each group member reading his or her part using the website, Little Bird Tales.

Amazing Animals!
Our classes are using their powers of observation and listening to become an animal expert. We are using nonfiction print books, ebooks, audio and video to learn about an animal. Then we will be using this information to write clues about the animal. During the week of October 6th we will be meet a class in another state to share our clues. They will get a chance to guess which animal we researched and then we will have a chance to listen to their clues.

The Amazing Animals Event is sponsored by T.W.I.C.E. (Two Way Interactive Connections in Education).

Ima Book has been having a difficult time. Kids have been borrowing her from the library and forgetting how to treat her right!
Our first graders have been terrific recalling book care rules and helping Ima Book stay in tiptop shape!

Here are our book care rules:

Keep our books in a safe spot out of reach from pets and younger siblings.
Wash our hands before reading a book.
Keep our book away from food and drinks.
If our book gets hurt, bring it to Mrs. Miller so she can fix it.
